Victory Slips Away at Home as Texas Falls to Boston College, 14–13 in Double Overtime
February 13, 2026
There’s nothing like a Friday night at Caven Field, and as a proud Texas Lacrosse alumni, I was happy to be there in person, on a balmy early spring ATX weather night. Unfortunately, this game ended in heartbreak as our Horns lost to the visiting Boston College Eagles Club Team in double overtime, 14–13. Yes = Double Overtimes.
A Sluggish Start — On and Off the Field
The Horns started a little sluggish, but once they found their rhythm, they really got going.
The scoreboard, however, never quite did.
After three or four attempts to revive the malfunctioning Caven Field scoreboard, it officially got fired. From that point on, the on-field referees were responsible for keeping time, score, and order. A rare home-field bummer for the Texas Longhorn atmosphere — but the crowd stayed engaged and present.
First Half: Texas in Control
Per my notepad, old-school style, keeping track of the scoring manually as the game unfolded:
-
Texas 2 – Boston College 2
-
Texas 3 – Boston College 2
-
Texas 4 – BC 3
-
Texas 5 – BC 3
-
Texas 6 – BC 3
-
Texas 7 – BC 3
-
Texas 8 – BC 3
-
Texas 8 – BC 4
-
Texas 8 – BC 5
-
Texas 9 – BC 5
The Horns built what felt like a comfortable lead and were playing with confidence.
A Boston College parent and fan shared some helpful context with me during the game. She mentioned that Boston College Lacrosse had previously competed at a higher division level, but for the past 15 years has been a club-level team. She also verbally told me that due to extremely cold weather in the Northeast section of the USA, this was the Eagles’ first real game of the season — part of a Texas two-step road trip featuring Texas and Baylor.
Second Half: Momentum Swings
After halftime, the energy shifted.
By the fourth quarter, the score tightened to Texas 12 – Boston College 11.
At that point, a Texas Lacrosse Club player informed me that Boston College had clawed back into the game using a 10-man ride — applying relentless pressure and forcing key clearing turnovers.
Soon enough, the score was knotted at 12–12.
Then came a big moment for the Horns.
All-Star #41 Eigen buried a goal to put Texas back on top, 13–12.
With approximately 26 seconds left, though, Boston College found the equalizer, forcing overtime at 13–13. You could feel the tension across the field.
As fellow Texas alumni Parker Ayeles told me postgame
“The Horns had a tough 3rd quarter after being up 12–6. Maybe we’ll see this Boston College team again in the National Club Playoffs. Time will tell.”
Overtime Drama
The first sudden-death overtime period went scoreless. Both teams had chances, but neither could capitalize.
In the second overtime, Boston College punched in the game-winner and walked off with the road victory.
Their Boston College team player and coaching sideline felt noticeably more juiced up late in the game — energized, loud, and feeding off the momentum shift.
Final Thoughts
This Home Loss stings. This game felt as competitive and snarky as a MCLA Tournament game! I'm proud of the Texas Horns scheduler for getting this legit playoff level type regular season game @ home upon our Caven Field. This was hard fought, male testosterone fueled lacrosse from both teams! The Horns had control, built a strong lead, and showed flashes of dominance. But the 3rd quarter and late game closing skills, just weren't there for our Texas Longhorns tonight. --George Vance McGee Horns' Up, Always!
