11 AM faceoff start time on a beautiful sunny, California-esque weather day in Austin, TX. Caven field looking crisp and ready for action.
The visiting Oklahoma Sooners brought what visually appeared to be a full lineup, squad and sideline of vociferous coaches. The visiting Sooners may not have the most stick skills or player talent, but I will commend them for playing tough and giving full effort from the beginning of the game until the last 4th quarter buzzer.
Yea yea yea, but our Texas Longhorns Defense and goalie straight up BLANKED Oklahoma in the 1st Half! Zero goals, nada, nil, nothing. OU got some shots off, but rarely were they even on cage. The Texas Offense led by Midfielder #41 Eigen, along with some middies and attackman powered thru 8 total goals in the 1st half. Texas Defense was stifling and our goalie #12 Levine, continued to shine and drop some "Joe 49er's Montana level easy to catch clearing passes." So smooth.
One thing I've learned covering this year's 2026 squad is the Defense and goalie play firm and defend the cage, like it's a last stand at the Alamo.
The Texas Scoring goals occurred via straight up 1 on 1 dodges and shots to the cage, some Midfield crank shots, and a couple dumps near the cage. The Texas offense appears to be a hodgepodge of different styles and philosophies from possession to possession.
Halftime @ Caven Field Texas 8, Oklahoma O.
In the second half and specifically 3rd quarter, Oklahoma Scored 3 goals and Texas just 2. Post Halftime, Texas' killer instinct was a bit lacking. I'm assuming Post-Halftime stomping, The Texas coaching staff happily emptied the bench, let guys play and put the back-up TX goalie in. Per a couple different Texas parents overheard mumbling on the 3rd quarter action, "That 3rd quarter was rough."
Moving on the 4th quarter was more even, #41 Eigen juiced in a couple goals, talked a little trash and The Texas Longhorns got their mojo back.
Final Score on a beautiful sunny, crisp warm 80 degrees Fahrenheit day with an occasionally cooling breeze; Texas 12. Oklahoma Sooners 5.
Bonus Note. Postgame on my way back home to the St. Elmo, SoCo neighborhood in the ATX via bicycle, a Texas Longhorn Assistant Coach informed me, "yes the TCU Frogs plan to return to Austin, to finish and complete the rained-out/lightning delayed game that was paused in the middle of the 3rd quarter."
He also said, "buckle up and show up in person for the Caven field Home Game vs. the Texas Aggies as it's gonna be packed and exciting!"

Who was the Game On announcer? He was terrific...both play by play and color analysis were top notch!!!
ReplyDeleteI think he is the current varsity boys Austin High Lacrosse coach, and former Texas Lax coaching assistant. I agree, he knows his stuff!
