A chilly, rainy spring day across the DFW area set the stage for a gritty 5:00 PM Central semifinal matchup between the Texas Longhorns and their rivals, Texas A&M Aggies.
Slow Start for Texas
The game opened with a familiar theme for Texas—a somewhat sluggish start. Meanwhile, Texas A&M came out energized, playing like a team with its season on the line.
The Aggies struck first and built early momentum, jumping out to leads of 2–1, 3–2, and then 4–2. Texas, however, began to respond. The Longhorns chipped away, tying things at 4–4 after battling back.
A Competitive First Half
Texas gradually found its rhythm in the second quarter. The scoring tightened:
- 5–5 tie
- Texas takes a 6–5 lead
- Texas extends to 7–6
Despite looking a bit flat at times, the Longhorns did just enough to edge ahead.
Halftime Score: Texas 7, Texas A&M 6
All of the game action unfolding in cold, windy, overcast jacket-required conditions. I said, "are we in Dallas or the Panhandle right now?"
Second Half Surge
After halftime, a different Texas team emerged—the one fans have enjoyed all season.
The Longhorns turned up the intensity across the board:
- Strong, disciplined defense
- Stellar goalie play
- Explosive scoring from both midfield and attack players.
Texas began to separate:
- 8–6
- 9–7
- 10–7
A standout performance came from #51 for Texas, Luke Sganga delivering multiple powerful, highlight-worthy goals.
The Aggies made one last push, closing the gap to 11–9. For a moment, it felt like momentum might shift.
Closing It Out
But Texas quickly shut the door.
The Longhorns answered with back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 13–9, then shifted into control mode for the remainder of the fourth quarter—managing possession, burning clock, and locking down defensively.
Final Score
Texas Longhorns 13, Texas A&M 9
What It Means

Aggies have some talent and it is always hard to win a second time in the season...Horns are well positioned to win the tournament
ReplyDeleteYep the Texas Aggies were up 4-2 in the first quarter, but Texas held and got the offense going when needed to dig themselves out of the early hole. the 2nd Half Texas team, was the team I've enjoy watching all year! Stout smothering defense and aggressive offense. Aggies best player perhaps is a talented Lefty thick Defenseman, who clears by himself and even score a goal.
