A first look at the 2026–27 preseason fundraiser charity game
The 2026–27 school year at the University of Texas is officially underway. Students are back, and the campus and the city are buzzing.
Today's fundraiser game was worth the five-dollar donation at the gates. The fan section sat directly in the sun on a 96-degree ATX afternoon, with roughly 20 students in the stands. One player told me postgame it was even hotter down on the turf.
Jack Tennant, an All-Star defenseman on the current Texas roster, said, "The game sold 150 tickets. Each side was built the same way: Greek fraternity players with a handful of current UT lacrosse players sprinkled in. Thanks for coming out," he added.
The gameplay was legit. You could tell several of the Greek brethren had prior experience playing lacrosse and still had the hands & sticks skills to prove it. There was a working scoreboard and three real zebras on the field, on the call all afternoon. I counted three or four broken sticks. Guys were trying, and the physicality and hitting were palpable.
By the second half, the heat — and possibly a little start-of-semester inaugural beers — seemed to catch up with both benches.
In the end, this was exactly the kind of intermixing you want to see: Greek fraternities and the UT lacrosse club team joining forces for a good cause!
And remember to check on each other's well-being.
