2026 LSA Division I Tournament. 1st Round, Texas goes on an Epic 2nd quarter Run to Defeat Ole Miss Rebel Lax. Final Score 23-12

Texas Lacrosse Alumni Reporter In-Person Photos & Game Recap — April 17, 2026

Sports Metroplex, Melissa, TX (Northeast DFW)

Texas Longhorn Lacrosse kicked off a new chapter today at the Sports Metroplex in far northeast DFW suburbia, urban-spalling  Melissa, Texas, under interim head coach Travis Mayor. Entry fee for the weekend tournament is set at $12 per day or $25 for the full weekend.

This marked the team’s first game following a recent coaching change. According to a Texas Lacrosse Alumni Executive Board member, the transition came down to fit: “Coach Lou and the team were just not a good match.” With Mayor stepping in—previously the lead assistant—there was a sense of curiosity about how the team would respond.

A Slow Start Turns Competitive

The opening stretch showed some early nerves. Texas looked a bit sluggish coming off the bus, while Ole Miss Rebels men's lacrosse came out energized for an actual playoff game. Ole Miss fired off several strong, confident shots, keeping the game competitive through the first quarter and into the middle of the second quarter.

At one point midway through the second quarter, the score hovered circa Texas 5 – Ole Miss 4. It felt like a real contest that was up for grabs.

The Turning Point

Everything shifted during a second-quarter timeout. Whatever Coach Mayor told his players in that huddle clearly landed. From that moment forward, Texas Longhorns Lacrosse flipped a switch, raced way ahead on the scoreboard—and cruised to a playoff victory.

The Longhorns launched into a dominant scoring run during the 2nd quarter paired with a suffocating defense. It was one of the most epic game swinging runs, I've ever witnessed in a lacrosse game! No B.S.

#39 Texas Attackman Takes Over

Leading the charge was Texas attackman #39, Xander Rosen who delivered a standout performance. He may not be the most physically imposing player on the field, but his game is built on finesse, awareness, and precision, with an occasional sneak attack.

He was "cooking with  grease" —racking up an estimated 4–5 goals and 2–3 assists before halftime alone. His ability to create space, finish creatively, and keep his head up to pass to his teammates was impressive.

Halftime: Game Blown Open

By halftime, the miniscule scoreboard told the story:
Texas 18 – Ole Miss 5

Texas had completely taken control. The energy shift was palpable—not just on the field, but on the sidelines. While checking the modest scoreboard, you could overhear Ole Miss Rebel players already talking about postgame plans around Dallas that involved ice cold beer and a Rodeo. Ole Miss appeared willing to accept their losing fate.

Second Half: Depth and Development

The second half became more about managing the game and giving opportunities to the entire roster. Texas rotated in a large number of backup players, including the second-string goalie, who stepped in and performed admirably.

The sideline remained lively and supportive, with teammates cheering on every player who got a chance to contribute—especially meaningful in a playoff setting.

Final Score

Texas 23 – Ole Miss 12

A slow start gave way to a dominant performance, highlighted by explosive offense, strong defensive stands, and a clear response to new leadership. If this game is any indication, Coach Travis Mayor’s impact is already being felt—and Texas looks poised to build on this momentum.

Next Up Playoff game 3 pm Central Time Saturday, April 18th. I saw the Streamers set up, with no announcers, so streaming should be a viable watching option.

Victory Slips Away at Home as Texas Horns Lose to Boston College 14-13 in Double Overtime

Victory Slips Away at Home as Texas Falls to Boston College, 14–13 in Double Overtime Scan this below QR Code to your phone, ipad, etc to make a direct $$ Donation to the University of Texas Men's Club Lacrosse Team ---Thanks and Hook' Em!  George Vance McGee, Alumni Reporter – In-Person Viewer georgevance@gmail.com February 13, 2026 There’s nothing like a Friday night at Caven Field, and as a proud Texas Lacrosse alumni, I was happy to be there in person, on a balmy early spring ATX weather night. Unfortunately, this game ended in heartbreak as our Horns lost to the visiting Boston College Eagles Club Team in double overtime, 14–13. Yes = Double Overtimes. A Sluggish Start — On and Off the Field The Horns started a little sluggish, but once they found their rhythm, they really got going. The scoreboard, however, never quite did. After three or four attempts to revive the malfunctioning Caven Field scoreboard, it officially got fired. From that point on, the on-field referees ...

The Scrimmage that Felt & Lived like a Game. Texas Longhorns emerge Victorious 10-8 over the Div. 3 Southwestern Pirates

Cold Night, Hot Lacrosse Action.  January 30th 2026. On a chilly cold winter night, The Texas Men's Lacrosse team began their 2026 Spring season with a Scrimmage vs the Div. 3 Level Southwestern Pirates from Georgetown, TX. It was an abundant crowd, that was well-bundled up and coated for a cold evening. Those of us fans whom did show up in person, were gifted an intense match of legit dual-team effort, timely coach strategized time-outs and impressive lacrosse gameplay action.   The game in general was refereed fairly, as both teams were able to play aggressively and yellow flag penalties were only thrown when warranted. Some basic insights I gathered from Southwestern parents and alumni in the crowd. Southwestern is a small 1,200+/- person Methodist religion based, liberal arts college, with yearly tuition at an astronomical $60,000 per year. A Southwestern parent with a son playing on the Division 3 Level team informed me their active players usually get roughly ...

A Bonanza of Central Texas Youth Lacrosse; the Texas Longhorns Hosted Weekend Tournament. Dec. 6th & 7th, 2025

--Written By Alumni Texas Lacrosse Reporter; George Vance McGee (Austin Silent Market Real Estate Broker Associate 512.657.9281 georgevance@gmail.com)   After I acquired a legal & rare parking spot in the North Loop neighborhood in the morning, I took an easy stroll over to EPOCH for a smooth and calm morning drip coffee awakening. Post caffeination, it was now time for my Texas Longhorn Lax Shootout baptismal experience. Surprisingly, this was my 1st ever in-person Longhorn Youth Tournament Weekend Experience. Simply put; There's a lot going on! The Texas Intramural Fields circa 51 & Guadalupe street are looking pristine, upgraded, green, well-kept and ready for action. I witnessed a festival of lacrosse! Every field in sight my eyes could advance and venture to was brimming with Active Youth or High Lacrosse players, coaches, parents, volunteers, friends or family. I'd guesstimate there's roughly 2 thousand + physical humans in attendance at all times on site. Sat...
