Guest Post: Per Jim Nicar the UT History Corner: Historical Insight into Caven-Clark Field

T he formal name of the team's facility is the " Caven Lacrosse Complex at Clark Field ." The Clark Field name is still there, and should be! This is the third UT field named for James Clark, an 1880s lawyer near Fort Worth who was originally a member of the Board of Regents, but voluntarily resigned, took a pay cut, and moved his family to Austin to become the University Proctor in 1885. In essence he was the registrar, bursar, academic counselor, secretary to the faculty and regents, librarian, and landscaper, all at once. Famous for personally visiting and bringing soup to students who were ill, and more famous for the Christmas dinners he financed and hosted for all of the students who couldn't make it home for the holiday. In 1906, students decided to name the original football field - then at the southeast corner of 24th and Speedway - for James Clark. When Texas Memorial Stadium opened in 1924 and the original field was closed, the name was transferred to the...

Texas Longhorns Blank Oklahoma in the 1st Half. 8-0. Texas eventually wins 12-5 vs. the Sooners Lax squad.  March 29th, 2026. in person attendee and written by TX Lax Alumni Reporter: George Vance McGee. Got an ATX Real estate question, want or inquiry? georgevance@gmail.com Licensed Broker Associate  11 AM faceoff start time on a beautiful sunny, California-esque weather day in Austin, TX. Caven field looking crisp and ready for action. The visiting Oklahoma Sooners brought what visually appeared to be a full lineup, squad and sideline of vociferous coaches. The visiting Sooners may not have the most stick skills or player talent, but I will commend them for playing tough and giving full effort from the beginning of the game until the last 4th quarter buzzer. Yea yea yea, but our Texas Longhorns Defense and goalie straight up BLANKED Oklahoma in the 1st Half! Zero goals, nada, nil, nothing. OU got some shots off, but rarely were they even on cage. The Texas Offense led...

Big Guts, Bigger Heart: Texas Lacrosse Battles Past SMU Mustangs in Gritty Dallas Road Win 🤘🥍

Road wins are never easy. Road wins against an in-state rival crowd are even harder. But on a windy afternoon in Dallas, the Texas Longhorns showed exactly what tough teams do when things start slowly — they dig deep, find their rhythm, and grind out a win. And that’s exactly what happened at Crum Field , just steps away from the George W. Bush Presidential Center , where Texas walked away with a hard-earned 9–8 victory over the SMU Mustangs . This one wasn’t pretty. But it was gutsy . Texas used a 2nd quarter scoring spree barrage of 7 goals, to cling onwards for the Win!  George Vance McGee TX lacrosse Alumni Reporter: online Streamer Viewer detailed notes and report. Friday afternoon March 6th, 2026 georgevance@gmail.com A Slow, Rusty Start for the Horns The game began under gray, overcast skies, and the Texas offense looked like it might still be shaking off the 4 hour road trip from Austin, TX. TX Possessions were short. TX Sticks and ball handling looked unsure.  The off...

Victorious Sunday Matinee of College Club Lacrosse! Texas Horns Roam over the Buffalos of Colorado.

March 1st, 2026 George Vance McGee in-person reporter.  "Stunning" --Colorado visiting parent in reference to the Austin Texas face-off weather at 11am this Sunday morning.  1st quarter action, Texas Horns get out to an excellent start. At the end of the 1st quarter. It's Texas 4 - Colorado Buffs 0.  the 2nd quarter was a yellow penalty flag festival for both squads; man-up, man-down, hockey-esqe, ref laundry littered everywhere, 5 on 4, 4 on 5, 5 on 5, 6 on 4. It got discombobulated. The bleacher fans and I lost track. In the 2nd quarter Colorado charges back to make it a game. Halftime Texas 6, The Visiting team from Boulder, Colorado 4.  (sidenote GVM opinion = Boulder, Colorado is one of the coolest small towns in America, if you can ever visit for fun, go.) 3rd quarter our Texas Longhorns came out aggressive and trying to win! 3rd Quarter highlight was a "POLE GOAL". a Texas longpole dman/middie made it to the offensive side and let loose a joyous s...

It Feels Good to Win. Texas outlasts Colorado State Rams 13-7 in front of a packed Friday Night Crowd.

The No-Doubter MVP of this game for our Texas Longhorns was #12 the Goalie, Mr. Cian Levine. This man was stone-cold impenetrable all game and especially during the 1st half. The Texas Goalie was stuffing attackman right at the crease's doorstep, like a cement block. He even drew a yellow-flag man-up penalty on a clear and allowed very few goals despite ample CSU on-cage shot attempts. Cian was an imperative ball-handler in breaking the press and clearing the ball.  Literarily the only thing Mr. Goalie Levine did NOT do this specific game was score a goal. He carried us the 1st half. My fellow alumni agreed upon our goalie's all-star prowess and nodded in unison toward halftime.  Physically our opponent Colorado State was more of a quick and speedy team. The Rams appeared less burly in physique and shorter in stature. I think Texas's bigger players, size and depth eventually wore the CSU Rams down in the 4th quarter.
